Building your Opt-In List…Part Two

Here follows some more standard principles you should follow to ensure that you steadily grow your opt-in list via your website.

- Be sure you have numerous cross links to various pages on your site so the visitor can browse through it. If he/she finds it helpful and pertinent he/she will be more inclined to bookmark your site and come back again. Be sure your links are well designed to catch the reader’s eye.

- Design your site so your pages can load quickly. Don’t load it up with too many pictures and long blocks of text. Leave enough “white space” so one’s eyes can be drawn down the page. Articles should be broken up into short paragraphs and adjust your text so it is easy to read–not too small nor too light. Difficulty in reading the content will discourage a visitor from continuing.

- Proofread your pages so you don’t make grammatical and spelling mistakes. You need to appear a professional. If you are not sure of the effect the page is presenting let someone else take a look. Forums are a good area to ask members to view your site or particular page. (You will probably receive all kinds of opinions!) But you should definitely get some valuable help.

- Offer your visitors freebies–ebooks, software, articles etc. that they can download from your site. Ask them if they would fill out a survey which could help you find out for what type of information they are looking, or ask if they would like to sign up for your newsletter. If a visitor does nothing else than to become one of your subscribers and be put on your opt-in email list you have won the first battle.

There are other ways in which you can build your list and these will be discussed in a future post.

Building your list via other means may be necessary especially if you don’t have much traffic to your website.site.

Building an Opt-In List

Building your List from scrtach can be a daunting task but if you stick by a few standard principles you will find that positive results are achieved relatively quickly.

Over the next few days I will provide you with some standard principles for you to consider, you can adapt them to suit your own circumstances but in the main they are proven winners.

Building your List -

* Your Opt-In list starts by having a website that will persuade visitors to spend enough time there to absorb your offer.
Your goal is to get them to sign up to your newsletter or offer that you are using to secure their trust in releasing their name and email address to you.

Here are some steps that will help accomplish this.

- Use original material. If they see that you are displaying the same content as similar sites. They aren’t going to stay around for very long.

- Start out with a headline and introduction that captures their attention. Let them know what is going to be found on your website. It doesn’t take long for today’s surfers to decide if this page is going to be worth further attention.

- Make sure your visitors know just what they will find on your website. They are looking for information on a certain subject and they need to know that you have their possible answers. Therefore be sure to use the keywords that best fit your web page because when your visitor clicks on a keyword with his browser he wants to find the corresponding content.

This should get you started, more tips will follow over the next day or two.

Test the Product before Promoting It

Nowadays making money online has become easier with the use of affiliate programs. Some of these affiliate programs are better than others. The main site or product owners looking for affiliates offer some hefty commissions; some offer between 30% to 90% commissions. All you have to do is register with them and place your affiliate link on your website or in your newsletter.

Hopefully those visitors that come to your site or receive your newsletter will click on your link. Once they do that all they need to do is make a purchase. Once that is done then you will receive your affiliate payment. Simple enough to do when you think about it but with the internet clogged up with so many affiliate sales pages sometimes it takes more then just posting a link and letting the emails fly to your members.

So how can you increase your affiliate commission checks? Simple, just change the way you do your marketing. You have to remember that you are not the only one offering the same product or service. So you need to set yourself apart from the rest of the affiliates.

Instead of just plastering the same product out there and giving the same speech about how product “X” will make your life easier, take the time to actually show your customers that it will do as you say. Look, if you are in this Internet business just to make a fast buck we have news for you.

You’ll make it fast but it won’t last. Taking the time to use that product you are offering up as the answer to your members needs, will go a long way in building trust from those on your list.

By taking the time to use that new product not only shows you the inner workings of it but also lets you know if you are just offering the same old regurgitated item that everyone else is selling. Sales pages and package images change every day in this business. Did you ever wonder why? It could be because there really is nothing new out there!

However, if you think you have a gem then test, test and test some more. Write a sales page or newsletter showing the benefits of using this new product. Be willing to answer questions from those that purchase from you. This builds trust and credibility not to mention an increase in sales.

If you don’t think testing a product and becoming familiar with it won’t matter, then just take a moment and remember what it was like when you purchased something. Did it work like you were told? If not was the reseller willing to help you with it or just give you a refund?

So test that new product, become its master and show your customers its worth and they won’t just purchase from you, they’ll turn into the best marketing tool you’ll ever have.

Writing Your Own Articles

We recently covered Private Label Content in some previous posts but the question has been asked, What if I want to write my own articles, What tips can you offer?

Here follows some thoughts and an overview that might assist you.

Writing and submitting articles is an effective marketing strategy to deliver targeted visitors, increase your rankings and boost sales. However, it is easy to equate article writing with onerous tasks such as writing high school or university essays. The memories of the pain involved in this form of writing can take time to fade away. The good news is that after learning a few simple steps, writing your own articles isn’t as hard as it appears.

One of the biggest hurdles most new writers face is finding ideas to write about. The easiest way to begin is to write about things you are interested in and preferably passionate about. You already have knowledge in these areas which can be shared with others. It is easy to under-estimate your own abilities in areas you are experienced in. Talented people are often surprised by the level of questions novices ask (it is important to remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question - only stupid answers).

Once you have decided on a general area, a good way to narrow the topic down is to focus on the problems that people have. Typically, people read articles because they want to be entertained or they want information. Writing entertaining articles is a particular and more difficult skill. However, writing informative articles can be as simple as sharing tips that you have learned. A guiding principle is to expect the readers to be looking for “What’s in it for me”.

You may already know the common problems that people have in the particular field, but if not, a good source of information is to look at related online forums and note the most common questions asked. If you don’t have all the answers a small bit of research can assist. Often the answers are readily available with a Google search which the readers could do themselves. However, you are adding value and convenience by providing a range of answers in a single document.

Most people don’t like to read long articles, so articles tend to be around 400 words long. If you break the article into an introduction, a small number of sub-headings and a conclusion you may only have to write about 50 words in each section.

Don’t try to produce a final copy as you write. First get your thoughts on paper, return and edit it later. Proofread your article making sure that the writing flows and would be of interest to the reader. Ask yourself, ‘does the article provide information the potential reader is looking for?’ It can also be helpful to have someone else proofread the article.

Don’t forget to remove spelling and grammatical errors.

Some choose to use article writing software, do a search for ‘article writing software’. There are many options available that can make the process easier. You will also find that there are many e-books available on the topic, mostly available for free.

Once you have written your article you may want to add it to your own website as an item that search engines love - a piece of original content.

After writing your first few articles you will find it is not as daunting as it first appears. You never know, you may even want to offer your services as a freelance writer on the Internet as a way to make some extra income.
